Associate, Government Affairs

Generally 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Business necessities dictate work schedules and occasional nights, weekends and travel are required.

About the Role

The Associate is a ‘roll up your sleeves’ and active and engaged member of a matrix managed growing team. Their primary role is to provide general support, content acquisition and development assistance, and project management to multiple clients and project leads simultaneously. Their experience and interest should support client work that is built upon Pyxis’ recognized expertise in health policy and advocacy, the ability to problem solve and generate a path forward, and to quickly help a client move along that path to achieve expected outcomes. The Associate reports to a Senior Director.


  • Represent the firm or clients at briefings, hearings and/or meetings. 

  • Draft/edit policy memos, talking points, reports, and presentations on behalf of the firm and/or clients. 

  • Provide administrative support such as note taking, scheduling, copy editing, and organize  material related to projects. 

  • Assist with the successful completion of meetings, workshops, and convenings, including  agenda development, scheduling and logistics. 

  • Proficient in data collection, organization, analysis and communication regarding emerging  trends in U.S. health policy relevant to the firm and clients. 

  • Identifies, stays current and contributes to the knowledge of current policies, legislation,  regulations, practices and trends in U.S. health policy. 

  • Project manage, including the drafting and maintaining of timelines, as well as the successful completion of deliverables. 

  • Assist with the oversight and management of the firm’s intern and health policy fellows’ program. 

  • Participate actively in Pyxis activities and teams, demonstrating a willingness to contribute  where needed, and interact effectively with others and build productive and positive  relationships. 

  • Support and facilitate collaboration needed to achieve individual and client team tasks and  projects; model commitment to working with others. 

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s a plus) in Political Science, Political Management, Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Health, and/or Health Policy and 1 year of professional experience. 

  • Bring a flexible and problem-solving mindset to client work. 

  • Possess excellent information-sharing, written and verbal communications skills with an ability  to tailor messaging to a variety of audiences. 

  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office products, including but not limited to MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint.  

  • Perform assigned work productively to deliver high quality client and organizational results on time. 

  • Developing strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with diverse teams. 

  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines  and deliverables.
