Cultural competency is the provision of effective, equitable, understandable and respectful quality care and services that are responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy and other communication needs. Cultural competency is a feasible and attainable strategy to address biases against racial and ethnic minority populations as well as members in the LGBTQIA+ communities, members of various religious groups, and people living with disabilities within the healthcare system and advance health equity.
